SYDNEY TECH TALKS VI

by Sirius Technology

Technology Makes Us More Human,

CEOs vs CISOs And The Disconnect Regarding Cyber Security &

Held Together With Elastic: Running A High Traffic Commercial Site On Elasticsearch

We love Technology!

Our recruitment consultants speak with hundreds of clients and candidates every day, who are always working on interesting projects. So, instead of keeping these exciting technology insights to ourselves, we put together Sirius TECH TALKS to create a community where tech enthusiasts can get together and discuss new innovations coming to the Australian Technology sector.

Join us on Tuesday, December 10 for an evening full of inspiring discussions, drinks and canapés at our Sydney Sirius HQ!

As always, we're excited to host three amazing speakers. We have Bachir El Khoury, who previously spoke about virtual reality at our first TECH TALKS event in 2017, now speaking about how technology makes us more human. We also got Gergana Kiryakova lined up, who will dive with us into the deep sea of Cyber Security. Gergana's talk topic will be CEOs vs CISOs and the disconnect regarding cybersecurity. Our third speaker is Ivan Karajas, who will speak about running a high traffic commercial site on Elasticsearch.

Bachir El Khoury

Entrepreneur | Speaker | Educator | Founder at Limpid Group

"Technology Makes Us More Human"

Abstract:

Every day, we wake up to a world full of wonder and magic. The ways we communicate, work, socialise and play were only science fiction two decades ago. In this talk, Bachir will tell us his story of how he was drawn at a young age into the digital world. He will share the many lessons he has learned whilst building tech startup businesses and software products.

About Bachir:

Bachir has over 25 years of software and game development experience, placing him at the intersection of the creative and technological worlds. In 2011, he harnessed this and founded Limpid Logic, a software consultancy and developer company specialising in software development for wearable technologies, games and entertainment. He truly believes that technology is the real skin of our species and a natural evolution of the human race.

Gergana Kiryakova

Industry Director at Cyber Security Australia & New Zealand Unisys

"CEOs vs CISOs and the disconnect re cybersecurity"

Abstract:

Only 6 per cent of chief executives responding to a survey said that their organisations had suffered a data breach in the last year.  Many of Australia’s chief executive officers are in denial about or simply unaware of cybersecurity threats to their organisations, which means, as a consequence, they don't include it as part of their business planning. Gergana will present the findings from speaking with 88 CEOs and 54 chief information security officers (CISO) across the private and public sector.

About Gergana:

Gergana Kiryakova is the Industry Director of Cyber Security, responsible for Australia and New Zealand at Unisys. Gergana comes from a strong business development and business growth background and her passion for the IT and cybersecurity industry has led her to be President of the ICT chapter of the Australian – Indian Business Council, ISACA Sydney Board Member most recently. Gergana is a passionate advocate and thought leader for cybersecurity and female leadership and has been a keynote speaker and panellist in a number of industry-related events and leading conferences in the country since 2014.

Ivan Karajas

Senior Software Developer at Domain.com.au

"Held Together With Elastic: Running A High Traffic Commerical Site On Elasticsearch"

Abstract:

How does a national property listing fulfil the search needs of millions of customers, barely skipping a beat? In this talk, Ivan will describe some of the many uses of Elasticsearch, explain how it has embedded itself in Domain's technology stack, and share some war stories from along the way.

About Ivan:

Ivan is a senior software developer, who has worked on a wide range of projects from small, bespoke applications to large, enterprise-class projects with millions of end-users. He often finds the interpersonal challenges of getting a software project from ideation to production as interesting as the technical ones.
