It's our first TECH TALKS event of the decade — and it's one you should not miss!
Since 2017, we have hosted 8 Sirius Tech Talks events in Sydney and Melbourne, where we invite like-minded tech enthusiasts for an evening of inspiring discussions about the latest innovations in the industry.
As Artificial Intelligence and Automation are set to revolutionise the tech industry as we know it, we invited John McGiffin and Dr Chris McCarthy to discuss some ways that these technologies are changing the security and healthcare sectors.
Abstract:
CCTV camera has traditionally been used to record footage and playback only when required normally in the situation where an event has occurred. With the rise of vision-based Artificial Intelligence, the number of insights which can be extracted from video footage is now quite amazing. This presentation will demonstrate how insights can now be derived from video.
About John:
John McGiffin is the CEO of Deep Recognition, a specialist recognition/AI company that takes a unique platform approach to artificial intelligence. John has been working in the Information Technology space for the past 35 years, running large Information Technology departments and their teams. John started Deep Recognition 5 years ago and has seen it go from strength to strength with major partners and customers.
Abstract:
Anyone who has undergone intensive physical rehabilitation knows the frustration, boredom and discomfort that comes with repeated exercises over days, weeks and even months. For young children and their families, rehabilitation is often a traumatic and emotional time that requires consistent motivation and encouragement. In this talk, Chris explores how the advent of social robots is giving rise to new possibilities in paediatric health care and how rehabilitation therapy with young paediatric patients (mostly with cerebral palsy) is changing to include a robot companion to motivate, instruct and entertain patients
About Chris:
Dr Chris McCarthy is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Engagement at the School of Software and the Electrical Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology. With over 15 years experience as both a researcher and engineer, he as developed and evaluated computer vision and artificial intelligence systems for a range of applications, including robotics, driver assistance, prosthetic vision and wearable assistive devices. Chris currently leads the Swinburne-RCH rehabilitation robot project, developing a socially assistive humanoid robot for paediatric rehabilitation, which was a finalist in the 2016 National Disability Awards - Excellence in Technology.
