In this role you will be:
As a DevOps Engineer and in collaboration with your peers, you will ensure the following accountabilities are met
- Champion AWS, DevOps and Agile practices in working with squads and delivering solutions, coaching squads on the adoption of these practices
- Champion best practice solutions using AWS services, using serverless designs where appropriate
- Develop high-quality DevOps friendly platform components that bake in scalability, fault tolerance and security, providing a measurable benefit to squads in terms of delivery time and risk
- Collaborate with squads to drive changes in squad behaviour
- Deliver and maintain solutions that provide compliance, cost and governance insights into workloads across our AWS accounts
- Delivery showcases and technical deep dives to squads or the broader Solution Delivery group
- Advocate minimal coding solutions whenever possible
- Work in concert with quality assurance specialists to ensure your deliverables have an appropriate level of unit-, integration- and/or functional tests and thus can be measured against a user story’s defined acceptance criteria
- Put in place Continuous Integration and Build practices to meet the organisation’s quality standards
- Be accountable for day-to-day operation of software features, components, services, or modules owned by you and your team – we believe in “you build it, you run it”
- Support your team to remove technical impediments and pay down technical debt
To be successful you will need:
As an DevOps Engineer you will demonstrate the following qualities:
Technical Experience:
– Experience working with high throughput event streaming platforms such as Kafka or Kinesis.
– Designing and developing Restful APIs.
– Experience working in a cloud environment (AWS preferred with AWS certification highly regarded).
– Application security tooling and testing, including security automation.
– Excellent Full Stack Engineering skills, covering Typescript, Python, C#, SQL, NoSQL, RDBMS, JavaScript UI Frameworks, etc.
– Experience delivering software utilising CI/CD practices.
– Experience creating reusable test frameworks and implementing Continuous Delivery.
Experience:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing and maintaining reusable application and infrastructure components for engineers to use delivering solutions.
- Detailed knowledge of security in the cloud including appropriate account structure and maintenance.
- Experience with DevOps and modern engineering practices.
- Ongoing monitoring of the organisation's digital architecture, checking for performance and compliance.
- Encouraging and building automated processes wherever possible.
- Experience delivering showcases and technical deep dives to squads.
- Confident collaboration style that encourages pairing and swarming to achieve sprint goals and deliver as a team.
- Experience with a variety of architectural patterns, integration technologies and modern microservice / microlith design.
- The ability to balance the long term (“big picture”) and short-term implications of individual decisions.
- Strong Stakeholder management skills.
- A firm grasp on the latest technology trends.
- Full Systems lifecycle delivery experience in complex environments (7+ years).
- Innovative and questioning nature to explore ideas and prototype solutions.
